The Stone Store in Kerikeri dates back to 1835 and has become one of the most photographed historic buildings found around New Zealand with beautiful scenery surrounding it. The Kerikeri River gently flows below the Stone Store where the trees and vegetation flourish around the area, making it a beautiful location to visit, especially during the summer.
Construction on the Stone Store started in 1832 taking close to 4 years until its completion, when it was used as a storehouse for the mission. This lasted until 1848 and then it was bought by a family known as the Kemp's who leased the historic building out to various storekeepers. After 1976, the Stone Store needed a great deal of repairs and renovations which were completed by the New Zealand Historic Places Trust. Ready for viewing in 1998, the historic Stone Store was reopened for the public to tour through and admire its stunning stone architecture, it being one of the oldest in New Zealand.
This section of the Kerikeri River is relatively calm and to the left of the Stone Store, there is a place for people to dock their boats while visiting. Behind the trees, a parking lot is open to tourists who come by car to enjoy the scenery and learn the history of the Stone Store.
