The details on the bark of a Kauri tree are very intriguing when capturing a close up picture of these massive trees which stand in the Waipoua Forest in Northland on the North Island of New Zealand. The coloring of the bark is a mixture of ash-grey, blue-grey or purple scattered over the indented texture on this tree.

A native tree to the North Island of New Zealand, the bark will slowly peel away in thin pieces from the surface of the trunk of the Kauri tree and lay to rest at its base. This is a means of protection for these huge trees growing in the Waipoua Forest as the more bark at the base, the more protection it receives from any parasitic plants.
