The town of Kaikoura in Canterbury, New Zealand runs along the coastal shores of the Pacific Ocean on the East Coast of the South Island.

From a lookout point on Shakespeare Road above the town of Kaikoura in Canterbury, New Zealand, the scenery is stunning as the roads and buildings wind around the coastal shores. Kaikoura is a very popular vacation getaway where people come to enjoy the whale and dolphin watching tours, hiking amongst the green hillsides, golfing, fishing or relaxing along the coastal beaches.

Once a centre for the whaling industry, people soon realized watching the whales was much more enjoyable than slaughtering them and tourism soon took over in Kaikoura. Set in a beautiful mountainous region, hiking trails up and through the mountains give way to some spectacular scenic coastal views of Kaikoura.
