The Hurunui River is the fourth largest river in Canterbury which flows from the Southern Alps out into the Pacific Ocean with the mouth being near Cheviot in Canterbury, New Zealand. The coastline along the mouth of the river is stunning with the soft looking rolling hillsides sloping towards the beautiful beach area.
The region around this coastline is very rural, but not far inland, there are many farmers who raise sheep as the main industry in the small town of Cheviot is wool growing. A town with a population of nearly 400, the coastline at the mouth of the Hurunui River is very isolated and peaceful.
