Many visitors who come to Kerikeri, Northland on the North Island of New Zealand will capture a picture or two of the beauty of the historic Stone Store located along the banks of the Kerikeri River. The construction of the Stone Store started in 1832, taking years to complete with the building being used as storehouse for the mission when completed.
After using the Stone Store as a storehouse, it was then occupied by a granary, trading post, military outpost, theological library, school and general store. Made from sandstone and volcanic rock, the building is set amongst other historic stone buildings all situated near the Kerikeri River.
Being the oldest stone building in New Zealand, the Stone Store needed major repairs and the reopening of it in 1998 to the public brought in many tourists.
