Surrounded by glaciers, ocean, and rainforest - Gillespies Beach is a stunning place to watch the sunset along the West Coast of the South Island of New Zealand.

From near Fox Glacier an 11km long side road leads towards the coast and terminates at Gillespies Beach.

The beach is covered with smooth, round quartz pebbles with a base of black sand which is typical of the west coast. The body of water which brushes the shoreline is the Tasman Sea - affectionately known to New Zealanders as 'The Ditch'!

A must do while visiting the Fox Glacier area of the West Coast of the South Island is to experience a sunset at Gillespies Beach on a clear evening.
