Every summer, commercial fruit pickers spend days picking all the ripe apricots from the trees in their orchard in Central Otago on the South Island of New Zealand. Apricots are ready to be picked when their coloring is an orange/yellow hue with sections being red which have been basking in the direct sunlight as is clearly visible in this picture.
After the apricots have been freshly picked, they are shipped to local markets throughout the South Island for sale to the public. An average of 6.6 thousand tons of fruit are reaped in Central Otago each year with plenty being apricots and others being cherries, nectarines, peaches and apples.
It is hard to resist the mouth watering taste of a freshly picked apricot and many of the commercial fruit pickers have a hard time resisting temptation and sample the odd one while working.
