Dudley's Cottage, a beautiful home built near the Arrow River in Arrowtown in Central Otago, New Zealand, is a genuine example of how houses were built in the gold mining days. Outside the cottage door, a red rose bush has bloomed and begins to drop its petals across the doorway.
Built in 1862, the Sillifant Bros were the first owners until the early 1900's when George Dudley took possession. The cottage has remained in the family since and at least one Dudley has always resided in the cottage.
The stones used to create the cottage are two feet thick and molded together with river sand and lime. To secure the stones, shell lime, mutton fat and cream were mixed together.
