A cute Yellow Eyed Penguin stands atop the rocks in the Catlins Forest near Porpoise Bay and Curio Bay on the South Island of NZ, watching the movement amongst the rocks below him. Known as one of the world's rarest penguins and listed on the endangered species list, the Yellow Eyed Penguins come to nest at Curio Bay in and around the Catlins forest and scrub.
The Yellow Eyed Penguin is considered to be a fairly large breed, weighing about 14 pounds and reaching a height of about 30 inches long. Their heads and eyes are yellowish in color, but the remainder of their body is black and white.
