While visiting the Auckland Zoo in NZ, be sure to scan through the trees for this cute little tree dwelling mammal, the Cotton Topped Tamarin. The smallest species of monkey easily identified by its long tuft of white hair atop its head, the white fur running along its underneath, brownish/red colored backs and their cute black faces.
Wild Cotton Topped Tamarins reside in tropical rainforests and open woodlands in Columbia while the family at the Auckland Zoo resides in a replica of their natural environment where they spend a good part of their days in the trees. All of the Cotton Topped Tamarins at the Auckland Zoo are males and visitors to the zoo can enjoy a close encounter with these animals at specified times during the week.
