As the sunset lighting starts to diminish, the clouds darken and cast a shadow over the beautiful scenery of Porpoise Bay and Curio Bay at the Petrified Forest in Southland on the South Island of NZ. Due to the location of Curio Bay and Porpoise Bay, weather systems move in and out of the area fairly quickly and can change a beautiful day into a sky blanketed in storm clouds.
Approximately 180 million years old, the Petrified Forest bares a world of history along the New Zealand coastline when the tide is low. Petrified tree stumps and logs create some unbelievable fossils which many professionals believe are related to what is seen growing in South America today.
