Along the shores of Opoutere Beach on the Coromandel Peninsula on the North Island of NZ, the Pacific Ocean laps up onto the shore where two species of birds pick away at the sea creatures left behind at low tide. Located a short distance from Auckland, NZ, the Coromandel Peninsula is a pristine, relaxed coastal hideaway on the North Island surrounded by pine forest, beach, sea cliffs and a hilly landscape.
A majority of the time, the waves at Opoutere Beach are fairly small due to the area being protected from the westerly winds which often pass through the region, leaving the quartz sand on the beach undisturbed. The beach is open to nudists as well as non-nudist families and as a rule of thumb, the south end usually remains clothed while the central area is optional.
Opoutere Beach is off the beat and track for most travelers to the Coromandel Peninsula but those who venture here, will not regret it.
