The Pohutukawa tree, often referred to as the "New Zealand Christmas Tree", is native to the area of New Zealand and it shows of its colorful flowers between November and January every year. When the tree is ready to flower, small clusters of white buds form and then the top begins to open slightly to a red coloring.
As they open, the redness takes over as a mass of red stamens, with yellow tips, begins to unfold. The coastline near Omata Beach in Taranaki on the North Island of New Zealand is a colorful display when the Pohutukawa trees are in full bloom.
