It is rare to get this close to a giraffe but while visiting the Pridelands area at the Auckland Zoo on the North Island of New Zealand, time slots are available to enjoy these close encounters. A long, slim neck adorned with various patches is the way a giraffe is identified as each animal shares different color pattens and markings.
The long neck on the giraffe has ventricles inside which pump blood through to the top of its head where its big brown eyes and ears become prominent features on the giraffe. The two horns growing from the top of their head, start out as small knobs that quickly grow as the giraffe matures.
Being the tallest land animal, visitors to the Auckland Zoo on the North Island of New Zealand may take a few steps back when this massive animal comes close to the enclosure. Measuring up to 6 meters with long necks which are their key to survival when foraging for food, close encounters with these giraffes take place at least once a day at the Auckland Zoo.
