Standing amongst the peaks of three active volcanoes, the closest being Mount Ruapehu, in the village of Whakapapa on the Central North Island of New Zealand, is the Chateau Tongariro, a luxurious hotel. The peaks of the mountains are covered in snow as the sun glistens off the Chateau Tongariro which is surrounded by 800 square kilometers of landscape belonging to Tongariro National Park.
Declared as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Chateau first opened its doors to guests in 1929 with major renovations being done in 1948. In 1957, the hotel changed ownership and in 1990, the hotel was sold to private investors along with the ski area and today the chateau has been restored to its original beauty with a name change to the Bayview Chateau Tongariro.
In the Chateau Tongariro, there are 106 exquisite rooms where guests receive top of the line service and hospitality. The hotel is rated as one of the best on the North Island with several restaurants, bars, a fitness centre, a sauna, a pool and a cinema while outdoor sports enthusiasts can enjoy a game of tennis, a round of golf on the pristine course or hike through the wilderness of Tongariro National Park.
