Compared to the Horseshoe Falls located in Canada, these falls found in the Catlins in Southland on the South Island of New Zealand, also named the Horseshoe Falls, are not nearly as big but their beauty is still picturesque. The falls cascade from about 10 meters in height over the tiers of rock ledges to a pool below as the greenery of the moss and vegetation flourishes around them.
The Horseshoe Falls are an easy walk from the carpark, approximately 12 minutes, with the surrounding area consisting of native New Zealand bush and forest. The name of these falls in the Catlins, New Zealand came from a surveyor who definitely had somewhat of a sense of humor.
