The Castlepoint Lighthouse overlooks the Wairarapa coastline on the North Island of New Zealand as the light shines from atop the 23 meter high lighthouse for 26 nautical miles. The Pacific Ocean, 52 meters below the lighthouse, gives off a shimmering effect as the soft colors at sunset span the horizon.
First lit in 1913, the Castlepoint Lighthouse has aided many vessels through the rough waters over the years and has been the focus in many travelers pictures who venture to Castlepoint for holidays. Visitors can wander down the narrow, wooden path which takes you to the base of the lighthouse where sunsets can produce an array of hues across the sky which reflect off the surface of the water.
