The beacon atop the Castlepoint Lighthouse in Wairarapa on the North Island of New Zealand becomes illuminated during the sunset hours aiding ships across these treacherous waters. The beacon was first lit on January 12th, 1913 releasing some stress off ship captains who try to navigate these waters.
This beacon on the Castlepoint Lighthouse has been changed since 1913, once in 1942 due to damage from an earthquake, again in 1950 when the diesel replaced the kerosene, electric power took over by 1960 and in 1988, the lightkeeper was dismissed when the beacon became automated.
As the soft sunset hues span across the sky in the background, the beacon on the Castlepoint Lighthouse flashes for 26 nautical miles across the area.
