The Maitai Falls along the Southern Scenic Route in Southland, NZ are a vision of beauty and only a short walk through native bush, one which is definitely worth seeing while visiting the Catlins. The cascading water drops 15 meters over an escarpment which is surrounded by a podocarp/broadleaf forest.
The sunlight sparkles off the cascading water which fans itself across the rockery where it pools below amongst the greenery.
The hike into Maitai Falls is suitable for children as well as adults, making it a beautiful place to stop while traveling the Southern Scenic Route in Southland, NZ. A short distance from the Maitai Falls is another pretty waterfall known as the Horseshoe Falls, both which are ideal places to capture some scenic photos.
