Beautiful sunset colors highlight the sky over the Cape Reinga Lighthouse in Cape Reinga, Northland in New Zealand which begins to flash over the waters of the Tasman Sea and Pacific Ocean. For about 19 miles with flashes every 12 seconds, the Cape Reinga Lighthouse aids mariners through these treacherous waters.
The cliffs where the Cape Reinga Lighthouse stands, are 165 meters above sea level and as the sunset lighting filters through the dark clouds, the cliffs become silhouetted in the foreground. Since 1941, the lighthouse has watched over these waters with a lighthouse keeper to keep things in order but in 1987, the light become automated.
Visitors to Cape Reinga can enjoy the beautiful scenery over these waters which is stunning during the sunset hours when the sky takes on a display of beautiful colors.
