A thin fog lingers across the surface of the water off Cape Reinga in Northland, New Zealand, but the sunlight tries hard to break through to highlight the rugged coastal shores. A sandy beach begins to disappear as the tide comes in and the waves break around the point leaving behind their white foam making the scenery even more picturesque.

Cape Reinga is located on the northwestern most point of Aupouri Peninsula at the northern end of the North Island of New Zealand and this is where the land ends and the Tasman Sea to the west and Pacific Ocean to the east, unite. From these cliffs and on the coastal shores below, many spirits are believed to be here relating to the Maori people as they refer to Cape Reinga as the leaping-off place for spirits.

Cape Reinga has become a popular tourist attraction where people come to see the scenery, the lighthouse and the high coastal cliffs. Over 120,000 visitors are seen at Cape Reinga on a yearly basis and the numbers appear to increase with each passing year.
