A small sized lighthouse, more resembling that of a light beacon, stands atop the cliffs at Cape Kidnappers in Hawkes Bay on the North Island of New Zealand. This light beacon was first constructed in 1963 and flashes every 15 seconds which is visible for 8 nautical miles.
The square shaped tower standing approximately 360 feet above sea level, is visited by many tourists as well as thousands of Australasian Gannets which use Cape Kidnappers as their nesting and breeding grounds. A plaque on the side of the light beacon is displayed for visitors to read while watching these birds in their natural environment and enjoying the beautiful scenery surrounding Cape Kidnappers.
