Cape Egmont Lighthouse Taranaki New Zealand
Photo & Vacation Spot

Built in London during the mid 1800's, the Cape Egmont Lighthouse now guards the western most point of the Taranaki Coastline of New Zealand.

The Cape Egmont Lighthouse was shipped to New Zealand from London in 1865, then assembled on Mana Island. However, due to the location proving to be confusing to mariners and cause several shipping accidents, the lighthouse was moved to its current position and lit on August 1, 1881.

The lighthouse is looked over by the usually shrouded Mt Taranaki, and is found at the end of Cape Road (off State Highway 45).
