Watching the boiling mud pools bubble in this geothermal area at Orakei Korako near Taupo, New Zealand is fascinating. The mud pools are continuously changing as they grow, disappear and new ones form in areas where the thermal fluids have rotted the surface rocks altering them into clay.
While these mud pools bubble, the strangest types of noises can be heard as the heated clay gurgles and churns. The mud pools at Orakei Korako take nearly a half an hour to reach from the town of Taupo, New Zealand.
