The waterfall, known as Huka Falls in Wairakei Park near Taupo, New Zealand, cascades over the rocky ledge which has gone from about 100 meters across before reaching this point to squishing through an opening of about 15-20 meters. Beneath the thick white foam of the river, the beautiful blue coloring of the water becomes visible before it hits the pool below.
The river eventually calms farther downstream and the unique blue colored water intensifies. Huka Falls and the Waikato River are this color due to the clear water reflecting the blue light with the air bubbles magnifying the color.
