Male and female species of the Australian King Parrot are easy to tell apart as the male has a bright red head, chest and lower undersides while the female's is green. As the daylight hours brighten up its habitat, the Australian King Parrot decides to take a short rest while perched in a tree.
Until the Australian King Parrot reaches about 4 years of age, they are similar in color to the females and juveniles. Reaching about 16 inches in length, the Australian King Parrot will feed on fruits, nuts, seeds, nectar, blossoms and insects.
Many people have Australian King Parrots as pets, but this particular one resides at his habitat at the Auckland Zoo on the North Island of New Zealand. Sitting quietly amongst the tree branches, this bird decides it is time for some quiet time and takes a little sleep.
