A dedication and reminder above the town of Arrowtown in Central Otago, New Zealand is the historic Arrowtown Chinese Settlement. This represents the appreciation which was received from the Chinese goldminers and the business people who aided in the region.
In 1874, 3,564 Chinese resided in Otago and when they died they were buried in the Chinese section of Otago. In 1885, the settlement had grown considerably and stores and halls were built. The sign outside, marks the entrance to the remains of the Chinese Settlement which is open to the public to see the history and culture of the Chinese people who resided in Otago, New Zealand.
