The sunlight glistens off the ripe apricots hanging from the trees in an orchard near Roxburgh in Central Otago on the South Island of New Zealand. Acres of apricot trees fill these orchards and grow beautifully in the ideal climate of warm summer temperatures and cold winters that Central Otago has.
The apricots become an orange yellowish color when ripe, with some being red in sections as this is the side which received the most sunlight. Throughout Central Otago, a yearly crop of about 6.6 thousand tons of fruit is harvested and then some are shipped out to local processors with a majority of them being divided up between the markets across the South Island.
