An orchard in Roxburgh, Central Otago on the South Island of New Zealand is ready for harvesting as the Apricot trees are full of ripe fruit. Bright orange and yellow apricots hang from the branches of the trees and the commercial pickers will soon be around to pluck each one from its nest.
Central Otago has the ideal temperatures for growing apricots as the summers are very hot and the winters are cold which is what this type of tree thrives on. Apricots are an excellent source of Vitamin A, more so when they are dried, as well as being high in fiber and very low in the calorie department.
