During the summer months, Akaroa in Canterbury on the South Island of New Zealand becomes extremely busy with tourists wandering the waterfront, boats mulling about the harbour and canoes and kayaks being launched. The activity never seems to stop and many people come here simply to relax on a bench and enjoy the scenery.
The Pacific Ocean produces a unique turquoise hue around Akaroa Harbour as the mountains and hillsides encompass the area, all which were created by volcanoes and are once again blanketed in greenery. While sitting on the bench, visitors should keep their eyes peeled as hectors dolphins can occasionally be seen visiting the harbour.
The waterfront walk attracts many people as there are restaurants where one can enjoy the scenery while dining, cafes for a quick bite and shops to browse through selling a variety of goods.
