Remnants of equipment used at the abandoned Sulphur Mine on White Island in the Bay of Plenty, New Zealand are scattered across the volcanic landscape. Slowly corroding away, the sulphur mining equipment was used on and off throughout the years from 1898 up until the 1930's.
White Island had an ample supply of sulphur and mining was successful but the dangers of various acts of Mother Nature became too much. Lives of some workers were taken, sulphur became rare to find and the equipment was abandoned on White Island where it can still be seen today.
As the steam rises off Crater Lake in the backdrop, a fascinating place to explore, the equipment from the sulphur mine barely remains intact as it rots away little by little every day.
