With two fishing poles cast into the water at Mission Bay in Auckland on the North Island of New Zealand, a fisherman enjoys the breeze coming off the water and the scenery of the volcanic Rangitoto Island. Rangitoto was formed by eruptions which happened between 600 and 700 years ago and scientists believe the chances of it becoming active again are slim.
Auckland has two large harbours which attracts fishermen, some who like to fish from shore with others who prefer the chartered boats for the deep sea fishing adventures. When deep sea fishing, you are likely to find Snapper, Trevally, Kahawai, Marlin, Tuna and Yellow Tail Kingfish, but from the shore, the smaller species of fish are what can be caught.
