There are many signs along the road in Oamaru, Otago in NZ, but the penguin crossing sign is one which catches people's eye as they near the Little Blue Penguin Colony.

While traveling through Oamaru, Otago in NZ, you know you are nearing the Little Blue Penguin colony as the bright yellow sign warns people to slow down and be on the lookout for any penguins crossing the road. The colony is located along the coastal shores of Oamaru, NZ and during the evening hours, the little blue penguins waddle ashore to their burrows.

The Little Blue Penguins are the smallest penguin found throughout the world growing to approximately 25 centimeters in height and weighing about one kilogram in adulthood. They can be very difficult to see when traveling this road and drivers should pay close attention to any signs warning of their presence.
