As the sunlight shines off the face of the Cathedral Cliffs near Cheviot on the South Island of New Zealand, shadows of the forest trees create a unique picture across them. Over the years, the erosion from the rain has made the formations of the cliffs displayed in gothic columns resemble that of an organ shape.
In the backdrop, the beauty of Gore Bay runs along the coastal shores where visitors can explore the area while driving through the hills, strolling along the beaches where many surfers are found and visit the museum and buildings and learn the history of the area.
To reach the Cathedral Cliffs and see their formations, take the turn off the highway near Cheviot or turn off at Domett and follow the Cathedrals Road. Pay close attention to the scenery before reaching Gore Bay as the Cathedral Cliffs are not clearly marked on any signs along the road.
