Starting out as limey sand on the ocean floor some 24 million years ago, the formations called Elephant Rocks are a geological wonder in the Waitaki Valley of North Otago.
Through uplifting, the then hardened limestone rock was exposed to natural elements such as wind and water and shaped into the formations we now know as the Elephant Rocks.
