The edges of the Champagne Pool at the Artist's Pallet at Wai-o-tapu Thermal Wonderland in the Bay of Plenty, New Zealand are layered in a beautiful shade of orange. Mineral deposits are what gives the pool its color, a hydrothermal crater which was created 900 years ago.
The Champagne Pool is extremely hot, approximately 158-167 degrees farenheit, with steam rising off the surface. The pool resembles that of a glass of champagne as tiny bubbles rise to the surface which is how the name of the pool came about.
Many visitors to the Wai-o-tapu Thermal Wonderland in the Bay of Plenty, NZ find this geological feature fascinating.
