Breathtaking scenery of the snow covered peaks of Mt. Cook and the Southern Alps in Canterbury on the South Island of New Zealand from the shores of Lake Pukaki. Mt. Cook towers above the rest of the region to a height of 3,764 meters, making it the highest mountain throughout New Zealand.
The light blue water of Lake Pukaki is due to the fact that this waterway is glacier fed covering approximately 80 square miles of the landscape. There are 3 lakes in the Mackenzie Basin with Lake Pukaki being the largest, all which are surrounded by trees and bush native to the New Zealand region.
Various viewing areas around Lake Pukaki create a paradise of New Zealand beauty which is at its best on a clear, summer day.
